Bus Tour

In the summer of 1964, Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters drove across the country in an old brightly painted school bus named Furthur, which would become an icon of the American counter-culture. In 1969, over 400,000 people came together in Bethel, NY, for the Woodstock Festival, drawn there by music that spoke from the voice of their generation.

Four decades later, the Transcendent Nation Foundation, in partnership with Unified Field Operations, is organizing another cross-country bus tour that includes a series of musical events along the way. The purpose of the Transcendent Nation Bus Tour is to raise consciousness through art, music and education in order to effect change on spiritual and social levels.

The bus tour will kick off in Oregon, travel down the West Coast through San Francisco to Los Angeles, and then cross the country to culminate in upstate New York around the 40th anniversary of Woodstock ’69 with a major festival: “TakeStock 2009: Back to the Garden.”

With the participation of living Sixties musical icons, contemporary musicians, and a rare lineup of spiritual teachers and environmental activists, the bus tour will build on the vision of justice, peace and harmony that emerged forty years ago and reenergize it to address the problems facing the planet today.

Many of the great spiritual traditions have foretold a time of crisis that would require a shift of monumental proportions. Whether one takes those prophecies to heart or not, there’s no question t hat a pivotal time is upon us. With the idea that change comes from within, at the Transcendent Nation Foundation we believe that collective enlightenment—with the power to transform the world—is possible if enough individuals wake up.

What broke through in the Sixties was a start… Using the power of the Internet and music to bring people together, we can build a ‘Transcendent Nation’ that fosters a truly just and sustainable world. The bus tour is a way to celebrate the heritage of this vision and reach across the generations to make it real.
